Map Editor (Reasearch)

I am trying to create a fully automated research center in the map editor. The problem is, that devices like the assembly machine have no option for items like the science pack 3 or inserters. I suspect this is because research cannot be done in the map editor but perhaps this is a bug that needs to be fixed or something that should be added to the game. This essentially restricts you from doing anything in the map editor that is beyond early game.
