Start from scratch

Post by Cztko »

Hi,
I own factorio long time and it is great, that is for start. Campaigh is awesome, but.... In Campaigh you after few levels you always start with some infrastructure. For me personally is really borring if I will always start from scratch, few times I want start from something like partially build base or half destroyed base? Is it possible to implement?

Best Regards

This ability is already implemented, we need just content. See also viewforum.php?f=36 Maps and Scenarios
and viewforum.php?f=14 Mods

There is also the inbuilt map-editor, that enables you to make maps yourself.

Or do you mean something different?

Well, you could implement some destroyed bases ("ruins") in the random world generator, so the world wont seem so empty.

He references a mission, there are a few missions where you start with a partially destroyed base, where you can just move a few things around and fill in some blanks to get them up and running again.

I think what he's asking for is an option for a sandbox game to start with similar destroyed bases in your starting area, and possibly spawn in random places around the map too. (though those placed around the map likely wouldn't last long before being eaten by biters, or would block their migration into such areas.)

Now, although it would be technically possible to add entities like belts, assembling machines, steam engines, debris(although that disappears after some time, so pointless anywhere other than the starting area) etc. to the auto place controls list, their placement would be entirely random, and it wouldn't look like a destroyed base at all, just a bunch of randomly placed machines.

What we could actually use though is some sort of "blueprint" for a destroyed factory, and have those blueprints placed at random, or some sort of smart placement, so mining drills/pumpjacks were actually placed on ore/oil, and steam engines were actually placed next to water.

The planet isn't supposed to have anything on it but nature and natives, though, it's the whole point. One guy with a massive factory against the whole rest of the natural alien world.

However, I am at times curious as to the actual lore of the game. Like, the ship that you came in on. How large was it? How badly did it break up?

One thing I would definitely like to see in the game, is bits and pieces of the character's backstory and the universe lore, scattered around the randomly generated landscape as bits and pieces of the disintegrated spaceship, providing the player with unique resources or high-tech components to accelerate his progression or aid him in his mission.

One way to do it would be to simulate a pattern of debris spread (very elongated, vaguely elliptical), and place wreckage nodes at various locations inside that, increasing in value and rarity as they get further from the player's starting point. Radars could detect these wreckages from further away than they uncover landscape, making them easier to find.

If I knew how to do it myself, I'd definitely add that to my "Factorio Gaiden" mod concept. :)

Hm. Why not?

. o O (
The planet has been tried to colonize one- or two-hundred years ago. A big consortium came and because the planet was rich of minerals they wanted to build a colony there. They build many factories then, and the result has been a massive biter attack. The attack was so strong, that the consortium that did the colonization project gave the planet up. Thousands of lives where lost. Billions of Credits. Only 14 people survived.

Since then nobody has tried that again and the planet got lost.

You are the first human since then... bad luck. ;)
