Like the title says, scrolling with WASD has issues with being too fast/not fast enough because it's speed depends on zoom. Allowing the user to click-drag the map as well would mitigate the scrolling speed issues. Also, it seems inconsistent that the inventory and other GUI windows can all be dismissed with escape, but the map can't. I can't count the number of times I've brought up the game menu because I pressed escape out of habit.
17:28 < diphtherial> i wish the map was click-draggable and dismissed with esc

Took a break from 0.12.29 to 0.17.79, and then to ... oh god now it's 1.something. I never know what's happening.

Re: Click-Draggable and Esc-Dismissable Map
Thanks for moving the post to the right forum.
Well, I updated the original post a bit, but I'm not sure how to otherwise make this a "non-lazy" suggestion. I fear I'd over-complicate it if I went on any longer.

Does this mean you're sober now?? What an awful state to be in.escherial wrote:Well, I updated the original post a bit, but I'm not sure how to otherwise make this a "non-lazy" suggestion. I fear I'd over-complicate it if I went on any longer.

Sober or not, it's much better like so.
BTW: It's just habituation. Lately I wanted to exit a window from my favorite IDE by pressing "E".
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4361 You know you play Factorio too much when...

Re: Click-Draggable and Esc-Dismissable Map
I must admit that it bugs me to no end that pressing esc doesn't close the game map. Heck, it even cancels and closes the command interface. So this part definitely gets my thumbs up.
As for click and drag scrolling... well, it's not a concept that exists anywhere else in the game, but it's definitely a good idea. Though, don't do it backwards. Look back at Transport Tycoon, or Roller coaster tycoon, and you drag the window, so you move the mouse left, the map goes right, and it's backwards to almost everything else.

Re: Click-Draggable and Esc-Dismissable Map
Those games have an "inverse" in their configuration, that inverses the mouse-movement on the map, so that it behaves "normal" for all the other people.
