I can't play multiplayer - Very very frustrating

Me and my friend are trying to connect to a game using LAN but couldn't because it just won't let us in. It says ''Couldn't establish network communication with server.'' and this gets more annoying than ever. I have tried using my IP address by Googling 'what's my ip' but still it won't work. I'm playing on Mac and so is my friend. Need help

For games over lan you need to use your local ip address:

EDIT: I see you're on Mac. It is basically the same procedure, but enter ifconfig into the terminal window instead.
