I'm experimenting with a three-way intersection, and I noticed something strange happen when all three trains try to pile into the same side at the same time: the last train to come in will have a green rail chain signal to take the upper loop, but it will sit there for a long time (estimated 20-30 seconds) before taking it. During this time, as I mouse over it, it still shows arrows going down the center lane, which appears to be it's original plan.
If I were to take a whack at the jargon behind this, I'd say the pathfinding AI timeout is too long.

I found another topic that appears to have a similar issue, which HanziQ took action upon on 20 Oct 2015, but I'm not sure if it's the same problem.

Re: Rail Chain Signal / Train Pathfinding Delay
What you describe is already documented here: viewtopic.php?f=173&t=21603&p=135882&hi ... in#p135882
But the issue you actually have, could be fixed by proper signaling, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZiL7_vfJtQ

Re: Rail Chain Signal / Train Pathfinding Delay
Thanks for the report,
It is also waiting in 0.12.30,
Seems like it has reserved the path, but waits to recalculate
