Four Lane vs. Two Lane Track
I have been developing my rail network and was wondering what some of the benefits of four lane track over two lane track would be. Could there be one set of trains delivering raw resources and another picking up the results of the crafting at that station, on the tracks at the same time? In other words, how do all four tracks interact with each other? Are the four lanes used more as a main line and the stations branch off in to two lines? Could I see some examples?
Re: Four Lane vs. Two Lane Track
I'm pretty sure it is all about scale. If you have a gigantic factory with dozens of trains and stations then you might want more lanes for your rail lines to increase throughput. Watch your trains closely, if you see them waiting frequently at rail signals then that is a sign that your capacity is being held back some. Adding more blocks (which is basically what additional lanes gives you) will keep more of your trains actively on the move simultaneously. You can also increase throughput by adding bypass lanes, stackers and additional stations. I personally have not needed more than two lanes (one for each direction) in my train systems, but I also don't have factories that compare to some of the largest I've seen on this forum and in videos.

I have run a 600 ore-per-second factory on two-lane track.
