help with the "logistic trash slot"- please

I have put some items in the "logistic trash slot" and provided besides the robots cases of all sort - anyhow, the items remain in the slot, don't move anywhere and don't show up in any case provided. Are they gone for good?
Where should have they be placed by the robots?
Did I misunderstood the concept?

There is only a few possible reasons.

You aren't in the logistic range of a roboport network. (eg.: the orange area)
There is no free storage area (yellow chest or specific requester) in logistic range of the network you are in.
The port-network doesn't have logistic bots in it.
One of the ports that would be needed has no power.

Did I miss a fifth option?

I thought the bot stores the items he finds in the trash to any net affine box in his area...

Things from the trashslots go into yellow storage chest or into requester-chest which requests this particulary item (this is what he means with "specific requester")
