I have a WAAAYY better solution to the train problem
I have a WAAAYY better solution to the train problem
I think this is because on the back end the length of the train doesn't change but the whole screen get squished down to be shorter so that all the cubes look square (even though they are 1 by 2^(1/2) ).
this means that after the trains got stretched by the first proposal the length of the train wouldn't change because the compressing on the backend and the stretching on the train end would cancel out!!!
I really hope a dev sees this and understands what i'm trying to say... because I want trains to be MOAR awesome!!!!

This is a tough problem to suggest solutions for, because you need to be good at math AND art. I give you a B for math and a D- for art.
Re: I have a WAAAYY better solution to the train problem
what do you mean? first of all, my math is spot on, if the train was stretched by a factor of root 2 as the train went vertical the train would appear in-game to not change length AT ALL. this is far better than what is currently happening with the train stretching and compressing as it turns... as for the art, who cares, i'm trying to say that they dismissed one of the possibilities without thinking it all the way through to the end display and that that possibility is actually the perfect, spot-on solution to the problem. absolutely perfect solution that they dismissed because they forgot that the whole display is actually compressed vertically before it is rendered...DaveMcW wrote:This is a tough problem to suggest solutions for, because you need to be good at math AND art. I made that comment in the FFF thread but was shot down with an "but we'd need to redo all the art!!"woolfoma wrote:what do you mean? first of all, my math is spot on, if the train was stretched by a factor of root 2 as the train went vertical the train would appear in-game to not change length AT ALL. this is far better than what is currently happening with the train stretching and compressing as it turns... as for the art, who cares, i'm trying to say that they dismissed one of the possibilities without thinking it all the way through to the end display and that that possibility is actually the perfect, spot-on solution to the problem. absolutely perfect solution that they dismissed because they forgot that the whole display is actually compressed vertically before it is rendered...DaveMcW wrote:This is a tough problem to suggest solutions for, because you need to be good at math AND art. Which isn't actually true many buildings have a floor size that is wider than it is high so all that would really need to happen is that the sprites aligned to the bottom of the tile and let the art peek out of the top. Belts and rails (and other flat entities) would need to be redone tough
