Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
Read about a small side project we have been messing with: http://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-132
Re: Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
I personally think this is a great idea, and have come up with some other suggestions for the F2P model:
- Speed modules. Pay a small fee and you will get 5! speed modules. Speed modules can be put in any machine, but will only work for a limited amount of time
- When a machine is done harvesting, a little balloon will appear above the machine. The player can run around and click those balloons to get their items. Additionally, they can buy an Automation Pack which will automatically harvest resources for them
- Automatically publish your production stats to facebook and twitter every hour! (Which cannot be turned off)
- Invite your friends to play! This will give you 1 free alien artifact for every friend that spends more than $100 on their copy of the game

So what's the name of the IAP currency? Factocoin? Gems? I always imagined paying some to refill your furnaces and boilers.
edit: I found this awesome mod last night:

The joke is that there is no real FF? <sniff>
Re: Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
Hehe, nice one. Only around the end though I noticed that something seems off .
Pay per automation? In a game about automation? That'd be pay 2 play then and not really fit the name free 2 play .
@mastermind shush, don't spoil the fun

Your game is really awful... But if you're switching to F2P, I have several Options for you: Take one, take a few, or take all.
MMO'ing
The single player worlds and occasionally multiplayer worlds are really boring. One of the possible fixes is to have a MMO server. EVERYONE builds a factory! Everyone is placed on their own team, so you can classify other players as your enemy and your turrets will pew pew pew at them! Raid other people's bases and loot their resources!
I want even more micromanagement in this game...
Please add a button in every machine GUI, so that every time you press the button, the machine gets a 4x speed boost for 1 second. You have to rapidly press it yourself to make it speed up... Micromanagement!
You could sell this feature for maybe $5 or something. Idk. Your choice, devs.
A New Biter
I would also like a Shiny, Golden biter that drops your in-game currency, whatever it is, Factorcoins or Gems, whatever. Their golden shells should be a dead giveaway to their value and must be kept alive at all costs. Yes, they poop the cash. Your evolution must reach 2 in order for them to spawn.

What would actually be nice is to use a phone / tablet to show the map during the game that can pan & zoom completely independent of the user running on the desktop.

I managed (somehow) to read a preview of this article when it was up briefly a few hours before the official posting. The only thing missing was the image, which included this key bit of information:

The "shake your phone like a pikeaxe" is brilliant and will really get people "into" the game.Re: Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
Awww. It actually sounded kind of cool until you started talking about silly diplomas and free to play.slpwnd wrote: 0x417072696c20466f6f6c73

Love the idea...will only consider buying if there is a purchase game with unlimited automation credits option.

Wait, stop my car to play factorio? Not a chance, I'll be playing factorio on the freeway and put on my high beams so other drivers can see me coming
Re: Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
*was about to post a topic about how going mobile and F2P would be a waste of ressources for a game like Factorio*
...
*heavenly forces of Pope Gregory XIII intervene and thus no topic appears*
Well done, Wube.

Re: Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
Sounds kind of odd that factorio is going to be F2P I mean...
-I wouldn't make kind of this Pay 2 Automate system because its still a game about automizing huge factories.
My ideas are:
-The notifications should be controlable(is that a word ) at the circuit network like for example an alert maker that sends a notification if the intelligent chest he's hooked up to is empty(maybe an ammo chest?)Or that the combinators can output notifications like signals?!
-And I wouldn't make it F2P because that often gets into a mess of DLC-like things that are just horrible.

Re: Friday Facts #132 - Side Project
Go back to needing module 3s for the rocket silo, change the chance of a spawner of dropping an alien artifact to .0000000000000000001%, and sell artifacts on the mobile store for $20 for 50. Technically, it won't be pay to win.
