In-game multiplayer not working

I have created a new multiplayer session and port forwarded it on 34197 with UDP only. However when i start the server i get no firewall popup, and my friend can't connect. Is this because i bought it on steam?

steam has nothing to do with it. Albeit I bought this game a long time ago on factorio, I now play it via steam and it works fine with MP.

Did your friend enter the correct IP adress of your comuter (not the LAN IP but the outside IP (check with https://www.whatismyip.com/))? ANd what error get your friend? ANd have you tried it the other way around?

If nothing helps, try something like hamachi or evolve (or wait for 0.13, which will get an Matchmaking server).

My friend gets unable to connect to server... Pinging my own pc also gives nothing.

how is your pc connected to the internet? do you have modem and router? also have you tested another pc inside your lan if it can connect?

I have seen this topic a few times in multiplayer section, but I have no clue personnally, and I think people who can help this kind of issues will have better chance seeing it if it's in Technical help.
