Multiplayer Troubles

Post by Tesse11ation »

Hello everyone,

I have been having nothing but problems since trying to play this game in multiplayer with a friend. I am familiar with forwarding ports for games like Minecraft, Terraria, and Risk of Rain, and I have the proper ports for Factorio forwarded, so I don't need help with that. My problem goes along with both trying to set up a headless server and also, if that fails (which it currently is), just hosting multiplayer in my client.

To make myself more clear, my friend and I both play Factorio on Steam and I have tried to play Factorio and host the headless server on the same computer with no success, getting error messages because my game is trying to access the same files as the server. I have tried working around this by changing the config file path in the server's batch file with no success. I have NO CLUE what "peer-to-peer" means and if I need to check the box next to it when starting the server from my client.

After giving up on hosting a headless server, I decided to try and host a regular multiplayer session from my client. However, I keep getting this message: "Following peers are not responding: unknown username", and at the same time my friend's connection is dropped with the error: "couldn't establish network communication with server".

I am absolutely at my wit's end and I have searched all over the Factorio forums for help on both of these issues and I have not made any progress whatsoever. My Factorio folders look like a mess now and I am desperate for help from anyone who might know what to do. Thank you all in advance.

You should probably delete %appdata%\Factorio to be safe.

I already looked at that topic and I didn't understand most of it. I just need a step-by-step instruction of exactly what to do and how to do it, if that makes sense.

Also I deleted all of my files for Factorio and reinstalled the game.

You don't need to understand the topic, just use the post at the bottom of the first page.
