Long time player. Always been thinking of fun ways to enhance the game. talking to a friend about late game and resource sinks. Have any of you though of Anno style consumption? I remember awhile back a dev was talking about NPC style towns. where you would have to provide resources to them. has this been canned? also, am i just out of my mind? lol. i cant find that post. i know it wasnt "cannon", it was just concept. but i think it would be a great way to have a constant stream of demand. example.
There is 6 resources (7 with fish, 8 if you include creatures, even though they only drop one thing at the moment)
Starting your first village will produce X amount of civilians. said civilians require x amount of "consumables" to live.using x amount of fish, coal, water (purified water maybe a second tier water), and maybe a monster resource, to create said "consumables". to advance said civilians to the next tier would require X amount of copper, iron, stone and maybe oil a day to keep them in said tier. the next tier would require advanced resources like steel and so on. you could even make it so if you can keep up with demand, it would shrink your town/civs and create "bandits" of some kind. that consume resources themselves at "dangerous" competitive levels.
This is just some of the random conversations that i have with friends or what iv been writing down my self.
Also the whole city style gameplay. you can take out "labs" and perform research through towns. happier towns. faster research.
I know that i havnt been active on the forums and i feel that i should be more (always been struggling in my personal life lol). But i would love to see this great platform turn into a fully developed game. I know there is a long of interesting mods out there and deserve their popularity. but i dont believe in games being made through modding. i want Factorio to be great. not so an so mod on Factorio to be great lol. This game has been incredibly fun for me. i used to work in a Electronics factory. making Electronic boards for medical, aerospace, and other. I personally didnt work on the boards, but i built/repaired/configured the machines that did the work. so i have first hand experience in throughput manufacturing. This game Is such a great idea.

Sorry, but this reminds me to Anno style games: Fulfill the needs of your citizens and you come forward.
This is (in my opinion) a game on a very wild planet, far away from any civilization and nobody would like to live there.

Doesnt have to be Civilians. scientists would be a thing to call them. if you were to replace lab research in this manner.

I personally thought the idea of the rocket (Which is late game) was to send resources up to a space platform, or other colony. Wouldn't the extension of this be to get something in return?
Get what? I don't know, but, something.

Normally I don't want to bring up political themes or events in the history of mankind on forums because they are like opening Pandora's Box... but if people would have said the same after discovering America (actually the Caribbean islands if one wants to nitpick) no one would have ever bothered to go back there after Columbus came back to Europe. Not to speak the horrible deeds the settlers did against the native inhabitants of the continent, even including Indian tribes... all for the sake of making space to settle on and to exploit the available resources.ssilk wrote:Sorry, but this reminds me to Anno style games: Fulfill the needs of your citizens and you come forward.

So in fact we aren't really any better in Factorio, with the difference that luckily it's just a game and probably no one will argue that we are bad people just because we kill digital creatures.

Hm. I see, but that was not the point I wanted to say.
I think, that before we have civilization on that planet, we have about 100 of other things to do/to think for.
For example:
- How will citizens come to the planet? I would not like them to "suddenly/magically appear"; they need to come from somewhere, yes, but they cannot just "appear into a already built house". Or so...
- What's with the space-platform? I want to play the game to the (planned) end, cause that idea sound like it is really new. This idea is not.
- What is with the background of this universe? How will settlers come to this planet, and why do they need: The universe is so big, that it is much more probable, that there is another planet, which is much more useful for colonization, than this.
