Actually the game is coal-based because in order to have electricity you must burn it in steam generators and this is the only way i know(as solar panels work only during day).
In long games this causes some rage because you have to increase your production of energy and the coal mines just vanish in a few hours. A great solution would be introducing high tech(in order to balance the game) renewable resources like eolic or geothermal, what do you think about that?

There's a way to gain energy, forever, without coal or any sort of fuel for that matter.
You probably know this, but it's called solar farms (or solar power plants).
The simple idea is that you gain energy from solar panels, use some of them, and store some for night use. You'll need a lot of solar panels and a whole lot of accumulators to do this.
A pic of mine (I don't use any extremely energy consuming turrets or robots yet):
You can expand and use different setups. This one is working pretty well for me right now. I've a fully solar powered factory (using electric furnaces).
