[0.12.24] [kovarex] Game hangs/freezes on Save

Playing a custom map/scenario, the game hangs or freezes when trying to save, i.e. I click the SAVE button and it darkens and nothing else happens, the game becomes non-responsive.
However, the Auto-save feature works fine.

When playing the pre-made scenarios, SAVE works fine 100%, the problem only occurs when playing custom maps/scenario.

I have tried the main and the experimental builds, 32 and 64-bit with the same results.

I'm not running ANY mods, running Windows 10.

Can you upload the save file (if you have one) or the scenario you're using?
Can you tell me the steps you do to make it happen?
Are you able to do anything (hit escape -> exit game) when it's "frozen"?

I've tried all these versions:

Win 32, v 0.11.22
Win 32, v 0.12.8
x64, v 0.11.22
x64, v 0.12.8

Can you tell me the steps you do to make it happen?

1) Start Factorio
2) Choose "New Game"
3) Set your custom settings for the scenario, or use the same settings that I used:

4) Save the game under whatever name you like (I used my name)
5) Re-load the game you just saved
6) Try to save the game again, and it will get stuck at this screen:

Are you able to do anything (hit escape -> exit game) when it's "frozen"?

Hitting escape does nothing, and once the "Save game" button is 'activated' (i.e. darkened, like in the image above, to show it has been pressed), no other buttons are available and the game can not be quit by clicking the "X" button on the right of the title bar.
The only way to stop the process is to "end task" it in task manager.

Have you tried it in 0.12.10? There where some map corruption issues with the scenario editor around the 0.12.8 version that may be causing this issue.

If you can reproduce the issue on a fresh scenario in 0.12.0 please upload the file(s).

I don't want to be a Necromancer, but I wanted to know of the current status of this 'bug' as I am experienceing the same thing, even with 0.12.24 .
I am on windows 7 64bit and playing with or without mods does not change. The initial save always works fine, however any loaded game will NOT let me save, despite autosave working just fine.

can you upload your entire game file? not the saves but the entire game itself and ofcourse the application directory?

Are you using the installer version of the game (either downloaded or through steam) or the zip version?

Can you reproduce the issue and at the point it's frozen attach the log file here? For the installer version it will be (on windows) in %appdata%\Factorio\ for the zip version it will be in the zip location root directory.

Also, what does the process show RAM usage wise and CPU wise while it's in the "frozen" state?

When hanging, the process is using 13% CPU and has around 871.000k RAM (thats 871 thousand) usage (not increasing over 3minutes).
I am using the installer 64bit version.
Furthermore I activated the verbose logging ption in the config file and attached the log below (NOTE: a) Mods do not influence the result, thus I left them active B) The log is probably never closed/flushed and as such does not contain any information about the 'saving', but thats just a hazard guess).

I'm having the exact same problem. Here's my save.

It doesn't happen with every save (or at least very new ones; I just got the game yesterday), but it's 100% reproducible with this save.

Hello, thanks you for the upload and report.
From the symptoms, my guess is, that some of the saves in your save folder is corrupted in special way, that it freezes the save game dialog.

From what I can see, your game is configured to use the saves in your %appdata%/Factorio directory, not saves locally in the Factorio folder, I would like you to upload the saves from that folder, some of them is probably causing the freeze.
You can also just move the saves away and try it is fixed, and then you can try to add saves back to the folder one by one to find out which one is causing it.

Hey kovarex,
I will try doing that manual moving of saves, but as a quick info: the saves contained in the zip are from my %appdata%/Factorio, I just moved them for convenience (so I would have 1 zip instead of 2).

EDIT 1:
No moving helped and even with a completely new saves folder and a new save without any mods loaded, the game will freez after loading the save and trying to enter the save dialog.

Do you have any antivirus software on your computer? If so, what?

I've got AVG. I'd be surprised if that were the cause, but I'll try turning it off temporarily.

As I said, I have no idea why is it happening. Until I get it confirmed from the zip package, and/or other info posted here, there is little I can do.

If it works in the zip version, it means, that the problem lies in your %appdata%/Factorio folder (as the zip doesn't use it). Can you upload that folder?
