Give alien artifacts a calorific value

Ideas that are too old (too many things have changed since) and ones which won't be implemented for certain reasons or if there are obviously better suggestions.

Give alien artifacts a calorific value

Post by BlakeMW »

I was thinking that since it's possible to burn power poles and wooden boxes and other fairly nonsensical (from a gameplay not realism) perspective, how about giving a MJ value to alien artifacts? I know this probably sounds pretty retarded, but alien artifacts are one of those things you either don't have enough of, or have way too many of, depending on biter settings and playstyle, I usually leave most of them lying on the ground, and find myself wishing I could use them for toilet paper. But the next best thing would be burning the spoils of alien conquest in the tank while conquering more aliens, or setting up an alien artifact powered emergency backup steam for if the laser turret offensive is sucking up too much juice. A value of say 50-100MJ would be nice.

That's a surprising good idea imho. once you have used whatever alien artifacts you needed for your research, you always get a lot more than you consume, which is kind of a pity.

I like this idea somehow. Why not? (see https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-125 - biter the discussion thread mentioned also burning biters/spitters)

They should have a pretty high energy. That way you need to care about burning biter nests, cause that might burn also the eggs.

I think this is fair: If the natives are too close you can burn them all, but that way you loose the eggs.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

I very much like this idea. Maybe we could use them for high grade explosives, too.

That's a really interesting idea - maybe we could even let them have a special property if burned, like purple smoke?

Just add technology/recipe to crack these into crude oil and problem is solved. :3

This is completely different, as you'd use them to replace part or all of the need for pumpjacks.
I'd rather have them have a differnt use.

Just giving the artefacts a fuel value is pretty simple.

Edit: There, have fun. Fuel value is 25MJ
