Running Factorio at 120/144fps without speedup.

Post by omsi »

Is this possible in any way? I've done some research and found a few threads on the subject: viewtopic.php?t=8086 and viewtopic.php?f=23&t=118

But in the second thread there's a post by a staff member saying:
kovarex wrote:I will be honest, the game speed is determined by the refresh rate of display (yes lame, but this is temporary solution), until we do multithreading.
Multithreading will not only let us set the game speed more properly, it will also allow having MUCH larger factories without lag.
Now this was posted in feb 2013 and in the 0.6 patch notes (can be found here) http://kovarex.com/wiki/index.php?title=Roadmap/History, it says "Speed improvements (multithreading)." Assuming this information is correct, then Multithreading has already been done. So is there any way currently available to play the game in 120/144 fps without speeding up the game to unplayable levels? And if not will there ever be support for it in the future? This is really my only problem with this game and i'd love to see it fixed. :)

There is no reason to run the game at 120FPS. All it will do is play the same frame twice, 60 times per second. You need a game engine that actually does stuff at 120FPS. Which has not happened yet, despite being on the wishlist since Feb 2013.

The problem is multithreading and multiplayer do not play well together. The devs chose to focus on multiplayer.
