[0.12.22] Driving extremely sluggish in multiplayer

Post by Zeblote »

I just made a car in multiplayer, and driving it feels really laggy. Especially with steering there's a noticeable delay between pressing the key and it actually doing something. :(

I think that driving the car is not covered by the latency hiding. It depends on the latency setting set by the host. If you are the host, try decreasing that setting. If not, try asking the host to consider it.

Yesterday I increased the latency on my servers to 500ms to provide a smoother gameplay, but some actions (putting items in a furnace by CTRL-click, picking up items from a transport belt by pressing F, ...) are just not hidden by latency hiding and actually seem sluggish, so I reset it to the previous 200ms, which is a good compromise for most tasks.

Exactly, it just depends which actions are included in the latency hiding and which isn't, we could do it forever, it just depends where we draw the line.

The truth is, that I could imagine the car movement to be also included in it, but as always, there are a lot of other things on our list.

Anyway, this is not a bug, but rather a feature request.
