I am having a similar issue. i dint ping the server though. it acts like its going to connect and then declares I'm unable to establish connection

Ok sorry about that due to my ingenious coding abilities on a cellphone i forgot a "." in the script which broke everything. Ahh scripting where you forget a single . and the entire thing stops working. Sorry about that should be back up and working.

tried changing my avatar color, but keep getting error messages about it not being allowed...

is your script denying our console commands? or has the syntax changed from that on the wiki?

it's disabled on the server so people don't cheat.. sadly this include the player color function too.

When first creating your player, the color is assigned randomly, methinks.

seem to be random, but the first player is always that annoying yellow..

When you join an empty server and its your first time it also seem to give you yellow.

and the color stay after that so sometime you see player with the same color.

Ok... well, perhaps something for the to-do list when you're home and bored, to script up a whitelist for a few cosmetic commands that don't impact gameplay.

(assuming, that the devs aren't already putting something in for 0.13.x to let us pick our color(s) )

I believe there is only two. The base and scenarios.
