I would like to know what are all the "Inserter Ranks" in the forum and how many post you need to have them

The inserter ranks show how much posts a user has made. The higher inserter tier, the more posts.

Manual inserter: 0-4 posts
Burner inserter: 5-19 posts
(normal) Inserter: 20-49 posts
Long handed inserter: 50-99 posts
Fast inserter: 100-249 posts
Filter inserter: 250-999 posts
Smart inserter: 1000+ posts

What about replacing the filter inserter with the smart inserter and using a logistics robot for 100+ instead of the current smart inserter?

I would just remove it and renumber everything else.

I think it is a good running gag and should be kept.
I like the idea with the logistic robots.
Construction bots could be added. Hmmm.

As a moderator, I heavily rely on the post count to help me moderate. It helps me moderate potential spambots, the most clever ones.

You can still see the post count, you don't need a rank and a picture of an inserter for that purpose.

User ranks? What are they? Can you eat them? ...

For clearness, I do not need any rank at any forum. I count the usefullness of the posts and not the quantity displayed in ranks (as you can see the number of posts even without ranks)

Why not remove all the babble except avatar, username, and post count?

None of this is necessary (you can go to their profile for the extra info) and takes up vertical space. Without it, your post would be half the size.

Well I definitively like being able to tell at a glance who is a moderator and who is part of the development team of the game. Of course I've I have been around for a while now and have learned some names. But that was none the less invaluable to me when I was new. Also when quickly scanning through a topic, I may not be interested in what everyone have to say but I would definitively take the time to read any posts marked with that little pink ball. That is a quick way to locate devs posts.

You can argue that colored name is enough for that however color blind people would beg to differ.

Furthermore, now that this feature is already implemented on the forum and have been for a while, I really don't know why all of a sudden there is this need to remove it. People who like it can enjoy it and people who would rather look at a post count number can still do so as well. What is the big deal ?

I am of the same opinion as DaveMcW, possibly also using the robot one or other Factorio entities:

Colored username, rank text and post count: absolutely essential (also maybe adding different colored username for Factorio staff)
Rank image: not absolutely required, but I still would very much like it
Joined date and location: very useful for moderating spambots, also easy to see what language(s) a user might speak
Avatar: I don't care much about that, but other users probably do (maybe resizing?)

You're thinking of what you need as a moderator. Most of us aren't moderators.

You can always disable everyones avatar and signature yourself in User ControlPanel/Board preferences/Edit display options
Having no signatures and avatars certainly makes this forum more readable for me as i don't see a reason for them.

Having the small icon showing mod/staff/post count is usefull if you want to find a user with a specific amount of "knowledge"(yes high post count doesn't nessesarily mean that you know a lot about factiorio but it's usually a good indicator) or just to find the staff posts in a thread(fff/bug reports usually).
