How do you place paths?

I am pretty new to the game and I have been watching some videos on starting out and good designs, and I saw that people have been placing these paths to either make their place look better, or to drive on, but I attempted to place paths like you would normally place things with stone bricks in my hand and nothing happened. Is there a certain key combination or some special way to place them? Any help is appreciated!!

That's pretty much all you do... Just have stone bricks or concrete in your hand and place it. You should see a green square (2x2 by default) where it will place. You can change the size of the brush with +/- on the keypad.

To remove, right click with stone brick or concrete.

(I'm assuming you're on 0.12.x - it won't work in .11)

I was just about to mention this. :p Try grabbing the latest stable version, which be very up to date with all the latest features and goodies.
