OS X - All Versions - Renaming application causes problems

Post by smitting »

Renaming the application file causes Factorio to fail to load.

Detected this on 0.6.4, 0.7.5 and 0.7.5 beta. I was renaming them so I could have each version, since 0.7.5 alpha was having trouble loading.

... I imagine it's more than just the executable that's different between versions.
Is the "app" on OSX basically just a folder with a autorun shortcut to the executable?
That's about the only way that could work.

Otherwise, you'll need to maintain separate folders (or archives)

Actually this is a result of how OSX handles the executable path. When Factorio is started the executable path is set to the folder containing the factorio.app. Therefore the factorio.app cannot be renamed (nor anything in it). If you want to have separate versions stored then you can make a folder with the version name and put the whole factorio.app directory inside.
