[0.12.19] [Martin] Chain Signal not preventing crash in rare cases

Post by Julianus »

Hello Factorio developers,

I believe chain signals are supposed to be rather strict, only permitting pass of a train until the next "normal" signal on the path of the train turns green.
There is a situation though, where a chain signal permits a train to crash into the cars of another train.

I rebuild the situation using only base and test mode and saved the game a second before a train crash.

Save: http://julian-schutsch.de/t21.zip
Log file: http://julian-schutsch.de/factorio-previous.log

System used is: A Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca using 3.13.0-37-generic kernel on a x86-64 machine.

Thanks a lot for such a great game.

If it takes more than 5 sentences to describe how to reconstruct the issue he totally did the right thing.
And, if he already says "in rare cases" I think everybody's happy with a minimal-case savegame

It took at least an hour to reproduce this.

Especially getting the timing right, saving just before the crash.

Maybe someone can deduce a simpler example from this one.

Would you happen to have an earlier save?

You could do it yourself. Just replay and save at the designated position. I did it and saved just after the newest train was added.

I had the same problem, luckily it didn't happen everytime: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =7&t=18056

Adding to the original topic: It seems that the normal signal has the same fault in some cases. I replaced the signal in question...and there is still a chance of a train crash.
