Can I download updates from outside of Factorio?

I purchased the game to play on my laptop when I have some free time @ work. I downloaded the installation on my desktop and installed it on my laptop.I NEVER use my laptop to connect to the internet so I can't download any updates. Are the updates available via download from outside Factorio.

I assume you installed the installer version of Factorio. You can download the new installer version on your desktop and install it on your laptop. It will uninstall the older version and install the new one, but it will keep the saves, config and mods you already had installed. AFAIK it's the same as performing an update with the auto-updater, but you need to download the whole setup file again instead of replacing the changed files.

There are ways to directly upgrade from one version to the next one, but the only example I know of is Factorio Update Helper (an aid for headless server owners).
In theory it would be possible to do the same for the windows desktop version, but there wouldn't be demand for it, therefore the full update is the best idea.

Ok...so a new installation is created along with every iteration of the program. How can I download the new installation without having to purchase the game again? I only get an option to upgrade. Thanx for any help.

Log in in www.factorio.com and go to the Downloadpage

Of course log in with the credentials you bought the game and not the forum credentials (see your e-mail of the purchase).
