Memory combinator
A simple memory cell is so useful in many different contraptions but it is so hard to build now. This guy just should output the last signal he recieved if it was not equal to 0. I know it is possible to build this out of existing parts, but this is something, that belongs to a combinator-guru's dark magic. What do you think?
Re: Memory combinator
I think I'm in favour of it.
Factorio is in part a toy for people who want to do complex and unusual builds. But more so than a toy it is a game, for people who want to have a game-playing experience, and playing a game is not really compatible with needing to delve into the arcanities of complex Combinator builds.
So the main question is: Are Memory Combinators needed to enhance standard gameplay? Not toy-type oddball play, but gameplay that is standard? Gameplay that revolves around building an elaborate and efficient factory, the sheer joy of expansion and progress, gaining greater and greater personal powers of command, playing in a leaned-back style watching your machines do the work for you as you sip your soft drink (or beer or water)?
I think maybe they are needed, or that at least they can enhance standard gameplay. But I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Memory combinator
If you say "yes" for the same question about combinators in general, then the answer would be "yes" for the memory combinator. That is my opinion.Peter34 wrote:So the main question is: Are Memory Combinators needed to enhance standard gameplay? Not toy-type oddball play, but gameplay that is standard?
You can build a good base without touching combinators at all. Most of the players enjoy the game without combinators, but not because they are hard to understand but because it is hard to build something useful with them. The simple memory cell would make things easier because, I bet, not so many players even know that it is possible to build this out of existing parts. And without a doubt data storing is a very useful thing in many cases.
