Two monitor setup issue

Place for things which are bugs but we have no idea how to solve them. Things related to hardware, libraries, strange setups, etc.

Two monitor setup issue

Post by adgdsahg »

I noticed the game has a lot of frame rate lag on startup when I have my two monitors enabled. Some things to note is that my main monitor is 120hz and the second monitor is 60hz, the main monitor is connected to the 2nd physical connector on the graphics card and the second one is connected to the first connector, so windows would default to using the 60hz monitor as the main monitor if I didn't set it to not do so. When I start up the game it will start on the main monitor successfully (120hz monitor) but it tries to use the second monitors refresh rate of 60hz because I check the settings of the main monitor in windows screen resolution window after the game has started and it actually forces the main monitor to 60hz which I have to then set back to 120hz again in windows otherwise the game lags way too much. (yet when using fraps the game shows normal FPS still)

So basically the game is changing the Windows setting for the main monitors refresh rate to the second monitors refresh rate causing the game to act very choppy/laggy, unless I change the refresh rate back to normal in Windows after the game has loaded or start the game with single monitor enabled then simply re-enable both once the game has loaded.

I would say this sounds more like a video card profile option that can be set versus an actual issue with Factorio. See if there's a "default" profile for games/applications that aren't detected and modify it accordingly.
