The achievements were thought to be mutually exclusive, and it wasn't until some clever speedrunners figured out a route to get each of them in one game. Maybe it's a good thing to differentiate the achievements between play modes: "Make 20 million green circuits on deathworld preset, railworld, default settings" and so on. Just make them absolutely miserable to get just to force player engagement.BlueTemplar wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 11:10 am If all of the achievements in your game can be beaten in a single play-through, then your achievements aren't varied enough.
(Some of them should be mutually exclusive, or require mutually exclusive starting game settings, or different game modes.
In the case of Factorio, consider the official scenarios too, as well as multiplayer.)

Ah, my bad.
Well, that's an option, even though it would be a lazy one.
(Certainly would fit someone using dystopian corporate terms like «force player engagement». Hopefully Wube isn't like that.)
I was more thinking of more unique ones. More in the vein of More Achievements than Stupid Achievements.

Re: Version 2.0.45
I just want to add to discussion about disabling achievment my old gripe with "Time factor"
Both Pollution Factor and Destroy factor are already functions of the time and "Self balancing" factors.
You have bigger factory => you produce more pollution => enemies are stronger
Meanwhile time factor are exclusive punishment for not speedrunning the game. Because if I will make same base as AntiElitz withing 5 hours, I would take 20 hours and will suffer from bitter evolved for 15 hours more.
Before change I was comfortable to just turn evolution factor to 0 and pumping pollution factor to nice and round 10 and still enjoy some challenges.

Re: Version 2.0.45
Achievements compete with the modding community, and are not only cruel to players individually, but disrespectful to modders. Mods should be promoted, not discouraged.
Factorio already asks too many unmodded playthroughs of people. One should be enough for a game of this length. Achievements like Clean Hands and Steam All the Way simply should not exist. There is 5 minutes of interesting content in each of those achievements, an an entire throwaway vanilla playthrough to get them. Pathetic. Even less should there be more of this. It disgusts me.
I can simply not do stupid things, but I can't undo the community-scale damage to modding that they cause. At least don't make it worse.

That's like saying that different game settings are disrespectful to modders.
Ridiculous.
But let me guess as to what was left unsaid in this comment of yours :
Do I need to remind that using Steam to play Factorio,
in particular just in order to farm for Steam achievements to compete with fake Steam «friends»
(or worse, total strangers)
for fake virtual points,
is not a healthy way to engage with video games ?

Glad to hear it. I did a 100% achievements run last year and it was great fun but I was also a little sad that I now felt that Factorio was "finished"kovarex wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 9:31 pm Just an update:
1. In the next release, all saves started with version prior 2.0.45 will not have the achievements limited the new way.
2. There is a new popup which tells you which achievements (and why) are going to be disabled if you start with these settings. (In the map generator gui).
3. I still have plan for bunch of new achievements for 2.1, which should make 100% run even more convoluted (=intereseting for most people hopefully), I'm even considering to add a 100% run mode, which would be the way to get one special achievement of you getting all achievements in one go. There are arguments against it, so it is still part of the discussion.
I personally am looking forward the moment, when I add these new acheivement, and will personally try to make the 100% run, the only way to see how hard it is and to make some possible balance changes.
It's great to hear that more is coming, but I don't see a roadmap or any information about it anywhere until I came to these forums. Is it available to the more casual fans like me who don't want to trawl through forum posts?

"Casual fans" will simply get an update notice when starting the game, like always when a new patch/version gets released.DDRJake wrote: Mon May 04, 2026 11:53 am It's great to hear that more is coming, but I don't see a roadmap or any information about it anywhere until I came to these forums.
