Description
This mod adds three valves, a new pump, and three rotatable pipe shapes that do not connect on all sides.
The valves and pump are unlocked by researching Fluid handling, the pipes have no research requirement.

Non-return valve
Also known as a check valve

Allows full-speed flow in one direction, indicated by the green arrow.
Can output its fluid level to red/green wires.
Recipe: 1 steel plate, 1 iron gear, 1 pipe

Overflow valve
Image
Allows flow in the direction of the orange arrow, but only when the input pressure is above 80% (i.e. the attached pipe or tank is 80% full). The maximum flow rate of the overflow valve is less than a regular pipe. Useful as an outlet for excess production, for example cracking excess heavy oil when lubricant supply exceeds demand.
Can output its fluid level to red/green wires.
Recipe: 1 electronic circuit, 1 steel plate, 1 iron gear, 1 pipe

Top-up valve
Image
Allows flow in the direction of the white arrow, but only when the output pressure is below 80% (i.e. the attached pipe or tank is less than 80% full). The maximum flow rate of the float valve is less than a regular pipe. Useful for topping up or acting as a reduced-priority fluid input. Note that a small amount of fluid will remain in this valve when the pipe is emptied.
Can output its fluid level to red/green wires.
Recipe: 1 electronic circuit, 1 steel plate, 1 iron gear, 1 pipe

Small pump

The small pump you know and love from Factorio. Included here to show its new icon (to match the others). No changes apart from the icon.

Express pump
Image
A high-speed, high-pressure pump for your high-speed, high-pressure pumping needs. Five times faster than the regular small pump, but uses only four times the electricity. For an example of their speed, two of these (one each side of the track) can fill a rail tanker in 10 seconds. Say goodbye to oil barrels forever!
Recipe: 3 small pumps, 4 steel plates, 1 pipe

Pipes
Elbow, T-junction and straight pipes, that only connect in appropriate directions. Each pipe is crafted from one normal pipe, and when mined drops a normal pipe.

Known Issues
Non-return and overflow valves have large fluid icons in the information overlay (Alt-key). This is because they are modified storage tanks, and the icon size is hard-coded. Can't fix, sorry.

Moved to single items board, cause it matches better. I know it's difficult to understand: if this mod is removed the gaps can be replaced with existing pipes (more or less).

That mod was my direct inspiration, as it has a few problems: it's got a bug that prevents Factorio from starting, it's apparently abandoned, and it's a bit of a pain to use (10 recipes, difficult to choose the right pipe in a hurry).
My version has only 3 new recipes, and I find it far more intuitive to pick the correct recipe based on shape and rotate it to fit, rather than choose a recipe based on which cardinal directions it connects to.

i absolutely love this mod, i only wish that the pictures of whats inside the pipe where small like the vanilla, other then that this is exactly what i needed to organize my refinery and other systems

Yes, I'd like to support previous post: smaller icons (and probably less numerous) should make info overview cleaner.

I've found a way to fix this, but it would remove the ability to rotate pipes after they've been placed - you'd have to replacing it with a new rotatable pipe, oriented the way you need.

If it wasn't the mod main idea (well, it's called rotatable pipes for a reason, I guess)) -- fine with me, I never rotate them after placing anyway.

The name came because I couldn't think of anything else and it's how they work. I'm happy to change that as well.

Updated to fix the oversized fluid symbol, placed pipes can still be rotated. Everyone wins!

hi Gotlag my factorio version is 0.12.3 (old version) the error is on game start

the code above fixes it and its working with no problems


EDIT: i just updated my Factorio and its working with no problems. Seems the MOD have problems only on old versions

Added new valves and pump, changed name of mod from Rotatable Pipes to Flow Control.

Very nice and useful mod!
Is it possible to add straight pipes with glass indicator? Like normal pipes do when you connect 2+ straight pipes. You still can use normal pipes between straight modded, but it is not possible to place indicators on the same line, cuz they will connect.

That would require making north-south and east-west straight pipes separate recipes, which I don't want to do. You can always press Alt to see the type of liquid in a pipeline, and mousing over the pipes will show their contents as well.
