Re: Here is a cheat sheet for express inserter arms function/de
Black is a burner inserter
Yellow is a standard inserter
Red is a long handed inserter
Blue is a Fast inserter
Green is a Smart inserter (Speed same as fast)
Purple is an Express inserter
Burner, Fast, Smart and Express can have different colour arms (not all have the whole range, for example burner is just Black or Red).
Arm Colour code:
Blue/Green/Purple (for fast, smart and express) are normal(Also known as Short in my mod, far side one tile away)
Red is long (far side 2 tiles away)
Light blue is Near (near side one tile away)
Magenta/Pink is Far (near side 2 tiles away)
when dealing with inserters with a different input reach than output reach
Base to Elbow section is input range:
Blue/Green/Purple for 1 tile reach
Red for 2 tile reach
Elbow to Claw section is output range:
Light blue for 1 tile near side
Blue/Green/Purple for 1 tile far side
magenta/pink for 2 tile near side
red for 2 tile far side
I can think of so many other types of inserter I'm missing too... but each requires a new entity. For example, all 8 types of express inserter can also be done Left handed, and Right handed (take from tile on left, or tile on right instead of tile behind), which brings you up to 24 types.
On top of that the "Shuffle inserter", can take from 1 tile away to place 2 tiles away, or vica verca, there's another 4 (near belt to far belt near side, near belt to far belt far side, far belt to near belt near side and far belt to near belt far side.) that's 28 types!
And that's not even counting 3 tile reach, or diagonals.

Thank you. Love the mod!
Re: Here is a cheat sheet for express inserter arms function/de
This is one thing that we found infuriating about playing with bobs + 5dim - uptee zillion multicoloured inserters with weird names. I ended up deleting a bunch just so I could find the actual ones I use. Then I found K&L inserters and wonder why other modders don't do the same thing, the little GUI to pick where the arm starts/ends is lovely and it doesn't clutter up the tabs. Is there a reason no-one else does it that way (someone said about using a ton of recipes or some programming thing)?bobingabout wrote: I can think of so many other types of inserter I'm missing too... but each requires a new entity. Re: Here is a cheat sheet for express inserter arms function/de
In the case of bob's mods at least, you don't need to delete anything. if you use and open up the config mod's config.lua file, one of the sections deals with the logistics mod, which has a few entries for inserter options. you can cut it right down to only adding the new express inserter if you like.Ratzap wrote:I ended up deleting a bunch just so I could find the actual ones I use.
Basically, 2 issues.Ratzap wrote:Then I found K&L inserters and wonder why other modders don't do the same thing, the little GUI to pick where the arm starts/ends is lovely and it doesn't clutter up the tabs. Is there a reason no-one else does it that way?
1. It likely heavily uses scripting to make it possible.
2. Figuring out a way to do it that the game will allow.
My best guess is that there actually is a billion different possible inserters programmed in with entity only, and the script replaces the inserter entity with the appropriate version when you use the GUI.
Re: Here is a cheat sheet for express inserter arms function/de
To add a bit to above - I think that K&L inserters might not work in blueprint. There is no actual item for all those combinations and you cant' produce them. No way to supply it to bots unless it can be scripted.
