Re: 'Stations'

Although it is not quite the same as your suggestion, I believe the the large bridge cranes idea is made with the same spirit in mind.

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

... would like this for movable objects like trains and tanks. Yeah, I don't like the building idea either. Maybe the final spaceport would require a bridge crane to assemble, but that doesn't add much for me either. But, since the elements required to construct an orbital ship would require the bridge ...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

What I suggest: It would be possible to assemble large buildings only on place - you build an empty platform (foundation) where you want your building to be, then you have to fill it with materials either manually, or using inserters (probably special welding inserters). You cannot move a building m...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

Ok, tell me one thing: Do you admit, that a crane is quite big and unhandy? If yes: How can I place a crane with a crane, if not: Where is the logic?

That is my problem with this suggestion.

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

... look of the game. - Yes, this is a change to the "everything" can be carried in the players pocket. If a building were to require a bridge crane to place it, then, yes, the player would not be able to simply pick it up and move it to another place. For anyone who has needed to move ...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

I would agree with Ssilk that (C) would be best out of 3. I wont necessary call it "space compression" but more like IKEA boxes: 1 unit that contains all necessary bolts and screws to build particular building. There are other ways to go around this problem: D) Buildings are unequal. All e...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

... When we'd apply such a weight-system to items etc then any means of transport could have a weight-limit, even Belts, Inserters, Drones and Rail. Bridge Cranes... might be the only "space saving" way to automate the processes that are too bulky/heavy for other means. That's the basic ...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

But there's one major thing we are using right from the start that's bulky and heavy... Steam Engines... and they need to be placed by hand because otherwise we couldn't even progress at all. xD This is exactly the point why I don't get really warm with this idea: 1. Where is the logic? I mean it h...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

I actually like the idea of having some sort of Bridge Cranes to do the heavy work a lot. There should have been a size/weight system a long time ago of stuff that just can't be picked up by the player and also not transported by any traditional ...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

When Berni1212 mentioned hopper cars it got me thinking about ways to load and unload them, and these methods came to mind: Unloading method 1: A trestle or large underground storage container that a train drives over, positioning the cars in such a way that ore can be dumped out the bottom quickly ...

Re: Ropeway conveyor above the factory...

Honestly I look at the threads about large or heavy items, about bridge cranes and ropeways, boxed ores and hoppers for trains. They are all ideas for taking throughput to the next level but unfortunately I think we are ahead of ourselves. We need something ...

Re: Large Bridge Cranes

I wanted to push this thread up as I think the basic idea from the first post would benefit the game a lot! Personally, the mid game goes by in my opinion a bit too quickly, because as soon as I start laying out red conveyor belts, I am already close to having the rocket defense. Making trains and o...

Re: Items, too big for the inventory

This is an excellent idea, but you're not the first to have it.

Check out the Large Bridge Cranes thread for some earlier talk on the subject.

Re: Ropeway conveyor above the factory...

Well I like the overall idea of having ropeways... It would definitely bridge the gap between Rails and Belts... which is especially for outposts far away an interesting concept as well as in tight spots where bots are no real alternative. Rails are nice for ...

This has been suggested under the alias of "Bridges" https://forums.factorio.com/forum/sea ... rds=bridge

It is also here on Frequently Suggested https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=6&t=4806

Great idea and should be implemented eventually
