What do you mean, "picking up"? Left clicking on a building or pressing F for an item on the ground?

You can build a pickaxe (or later a steel pickaxe) for the first problem.


It seems that you are doing that without any kind of tools. I.e axes.
Get some decent tools and picking things up goes ...
