But how will you know which servers are still online if the list is outdated? Which has the potential to spiral out of control over time. As more and more servers become ghosts on your list, and you keep trying to connect to dead servers.

Amateurs, the lot of you.
What should happen is biters make a nest on your corpse, and spawns 3 Behemoths that go off in different directions. One of them ate your corpse, and now you have to go hunt it down to get your stuff back.

In principle this is an interesting idea, but clearly you've already anticipated the problems it would create, in terms of a player creating a personal chest that gets in the way and no one else being able to remove it or interact with it.
But if another player can destroy or otherwise interact ...

The thing about oil is that it seems very out of place for this game as if it was designed with a very different mindset for an entirely different game.
in other system in this game do we have to jump these hoops in order to get the product and it can still get errors.

I only ever bother with a rocket launch. Theres really been no reason to do megabases, when I'd much rather solve a "new terrain" problem.

If I understand it correctly, the logic works in reverse. The Bots don't look for jobs, the jobs look for bots to fill them. The black box is in the the order the job queues are processed. Steam based power (engines and turbines) only consumes steam when generating electricity. If the power grid they're connected to has no demand, then it won't produce power. if you drop an inserter next to one of the power poles, you'll see the engine start running (slowly) due to the idle power cost ...

Well... this is new information. As far as I've seen, theres never been much headway on isolating it, because theres not enough info to intentionally replicate it. usually suffering at the hands of unknown network configurations.

well..... all those MP servers are actual servers. So the headless server has its UPS rate, and the Admins put a fairly large amount of effort into making sure thats its stable.

my opinion was the dev team never really grasped what made Factorio a success. There were so many aspects added to the game that they had slaved over that while technically impressive didn't improve the game.
