Re: Friday Facts #155 - Settling into fall
What will happen if I have the current 1x1 pumps in a save when I update to whatever version contains the 1x2 pumps? I'm hoping for something like leaving the old entity in until the player removes it, and dropping the new pump when they do. Probably the same as when turrets got bigger Everything s...

Re: Friday Facts #139 - Wrapping up multiplayer
Hi. Sorry I don't understand well about networking. But I want to ask about something written in the blog. 1) In the next update (0.13), if we want to play multiplayer, we need to login and verified with a Factorio account (factorio.com)? Well then, will the in-game name changing function be useles...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
I thouygt this thread was dead by now, then i come home from far away (4 days) and see poeple posting in it. What we are realy doing here is finding out which CPU runs factorio better, but the test i decided on just measures pure CPU integer performance, charts for that can be found elsewhere. As Ko...

Hydroelectric! ...which would need rivers and waterfalls, the difference in height would require the devs to make the world 3D, which is not an easy change. Of course i want hydroelectric power to, because im norwegian and we get almost all of our electric power from hydro plants, but i do also bel...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
Sorry for not being around to update in the weekend that was. I was at my ladyfriends' house and now i've got midterms starting tomorrow. I am going to update the list, because i can do so in less than two minutes. But right now i do not have time to invest into the project of creating a new test to...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
EDIT: edited out the RAM speed values (MHz), I think that cpu-z reports them wrong (or I'm missing something). CPU-z reports the internal data rates for your RAM, DDR stands for double data rate, so your bus speed is double the internal data rate. So if CPU-z reads 800MHz, then you have 1600MHz bus...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
This is a good idea, but I strongly believe, that it should be tested on some specific save with huge factory instead. That was my original idea, yes. But i decided against it as i didn't think everyone would want to download some map. I may have time to make a new test out of another map later ton...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
It would be interesting to see how these results differ on a map with actual things happening (maybe make a simple saved-game with a belt and inserter loop, and a few logistic bots flying around...) I didn't want people to download some map i made, so i went for what i thought to be the easiest opt...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
RAM: 8GB DDR3 (dunno where I can read the actual speed) CPU-z can read the speeds, you don't need to submit yours, but we are currently trying to figure out if "First Steps" on high game speeds are limited by CPU or RAM. Currently my results when comparing to other benchmarks tells me tha...

Re: Performance comparison for different computer setups
There is not much CPU used in the first map of the campaign, so it makes sense that the bottleneck would be RAM. You need a bigger factory to test CPU. The true test of that will happen when i get my new ram kit in the mail, i have also noted that one user on reddit with 8G RAM (don't know his spee...

Im upgrading from my 4G of 1333 MHz to a 8G 1600Mhz kit soon, i can test then to see if there is noticable differencekeyboardhack wrote:pedter wrote: Factorio would have to fetch from RAM every UPS which could explain why RAM speed is more important.
