When you right click on a deconstruction planner you can select items to filter for either whitelist or blacklist. I noticed that curved rail and straight rail pieces are separated even though in the game you can only build straight rail. I only selected the straight rail for my whitelist ...

So I don't know why I've never noticed this before but I think the chest sprite cover up the splitter sprite when the chest is placed to the north of the splitter and the splitter is vertical.
This doesn't go away if you hit the alt key.
I also loaded the game with and without mods.
