An alternative would be to allow cargo bays to be built away from the hub, and have them act as their own mini-hub if you did. Able to send/receive only a single pod, with minimal storage contents.
As for chaining them together... that's already kinda what a sushi belt does. By your logic, who ...

What?
It would be useful in some situations to be able to construct a second hub for receiving mats from/dropping mats to a planet.
Why?
I would like to build production space platforms around planets, taking ...

Re: tiny 90 SPM bootstrap factory
I think this is great. Small science setups are fun to build, but I know some players get tired of re-making them each time they start a world, or get stuck on trying to build an even amount of all the sciences. Something they can just plug into their main bus is super handy to have.

[2.0.14] Asteroid Collector gets stuck "Computing Navigation"
I tried to construct my first space platform.
When first placed, the asteroid collector will get stuck non functioning, complaining that it is "computing navigation"
If you add, or remove, a space platform foundation, it will start working as normal, and will no longer have this issue.

Re: Rocket Defense Assembling Facility
Logistics bot would be the relatively easy way, granted you would need thousands of bots but it would be easier than trying to route belts. One way might be to over produce the intermediates and uses trains to move it around, and then bots to load and unload.

Re: Pollution Electric furnace vs Steel furnace
I think that a baseline electric furnace should be a bit less efficient than a steel furnace. They can, afterall, be fitted with modules that improve efficiency or speed.

Unless I'm mistaken, you seem to have missed one inserter between the sulfur plant and the sulfuric acid plant. Aside from that, awesome setup!
