Re: Friday Facts #430 - Drowning in Fluids
I like the changes a lot. The previous design iteration was already a good improvement over the buggy mess that fluids are in the game currently, but I'm confident that the changes will make fluids behave like fluids more and remove the simplicity of just putting super long pipes everywhere. Now you ...

Re: Friday Facts #418 - Space Age release date
I don't think it has been confirmed if some of the rebalancing changes will creep into the base game. Making rockets cheaper would definitely make "winning" the game easier. But some of the other balance changes might make sense.

wait wait wait wait wait, those cargo attachments DONT let you use inserters on them?! Did i miss something when reading that FFF?! I really hoped i could use that to make a reeeeeeeally long space ship chest.

Re: Friday Facts #411 - All about asteroids
Using this to do directional lighting that changes throughout the day and with local light sources would be really cool, although probably a lot of work to render all the new maps.
Moving the light source doesn't really work as the directions of the shadows are fixed (unless you want to use ...

Re: Friday Facts #393 - Putting things on top of other things
I agree with the following suggestions:
Probably remove the faster belt tier again. It doesn't look good. The different item shading effect is nice and can be kept, but the visuals of the super fast belt look bad. It would probably be okay on my 120Hz gaming monitor, but not everyone has these ...

Re: Friday Facts #381 - Space Platforms
Factorio differentiated itself with its futuristic hard core sci motif. Sure, some things are completely unreasonable in factorio, but for the most part they tried to simulate reality.
Sorry, but the only things that are close to reality in Factorio is that some sort of guns, cars and trains ...

Re: Friday Facts #381 - Space Platforms
I dont like the "put items in space" that doesnt belong to factorio... what about a simple recycler? Burn it? what about resmelt it to something usefull? (like in an gels with ore soup?)
Causing pollution is kinda the whole point of Factorio, so I think that fits well. I also wouldn't be ...

Re: Friday Facts #381 - Space Platforms
Very interesting, love the concepts.
Weird question however, as the space platforms are remove view only and you can't seem to get the engineer character on them, how do you travel to other planets? Or are planets remove view only, too?
One thing that I might have missed, is it possible to have ...

Re: Friday Facts #379 - Abstract rewiring
The obvious remaining flaw is wires and wire shadows drawing in front of structures when they logically would be behind them.
Good post, though. I hope there will be a way to place poles without automatic wire adding (maybe by holding shift or some other key during placement)

One is the shadow, one is the reflection from the water surface.Stoup wrote: Fri Sep 29, 2023 11:38 am I'm guessing it has to do with perspective weirdness, but I notice it especially with the juxtapose: why do the elevated water tracks seem to have two sets of shadows but not those over land? Interesting!

I mean the expansion pack (or even just the free update) will probably have so many new features and mechanics that you'll probably want to start a new game anyway.gravityStar wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 6:01 am while breaking savegame and blueprint compatibility seems like no big deal

I assume because the spiral returns an approximation of the closest target by default. It should also run faster because it doesn't need a queue.

Re: Friday Facts #375 - Quality
What I fear most is managing multiple tiers of everything in every inventory. If different quality tiers don't stack, then inventory bloat will be crazy.
Unless you press F while standing on a belt of a quality-booster factory section, I don't see how you would end up with tons of different ...

But with artillery and spidertron, these challanges disappear too early.
How come, genuinely curious, that you consider that artillery makes it disappear? Artillery is what makes it reliable in the first place.
Without artillery there is no way in vanilla to have autonomous base defense ...

Re: Friday Facts #257 - NPE/Campaign update
My main point is that it would feel like a massive obvious oversight to not have a terrain feature that is in the game and prominent in the campaign NOT exist in the free play. As if the game was not completely finished or polished.
I also would like to see shallow water in free play (if it ...

Re: Friday Facts #257 - NPE/Campaign update
The science/rocket part changes sound great. I always found it somewhat boring that all the rocket parts were only used for the space rocket.
