In fixing the issue as show in FFF-299 which caused deadlocks, they introduced the possibility of the train crashing into itself which is a much more serious consequence than inability to route the train. I actually found a workaround. Simply select a research, then cancel it. This must be done before the non-queued research completes as the game crashes on research completion.

I have been unable to reproduce the condition of a research running while the queue is empty.

In both cases, the version uploaded and the previous version, I cancelled the research being performed in the tech tree. Despite cancelling it, research continued.

That seems similar with my issue, but mine worked for several hours in 0.17.3 before crashing.

There is no oil in the pipe. It assigns oil to the pipe because it is connected to an input set as oil. With the oil refineries set to the standard refining, both inputs are set to oil in.
