Re: Is that piece of junk toy rocket an atomic bomb ???!
The inspiration for the nuke was this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Crockett_(nuclear_device) It was designed to be a low yield tactical nuclear device. In fact the Davy Crockett at its minimum yield setting only delivers 10 tons TNT equivalent- while our largest conventional bomb the MOAB yi...

Re: Why uranium?
but do we get smaller steam engines, too? Yes, there's going to be a "higher level" steam engine (steam turbine) and they've mentioned some revamp of the water->steam cycle that might let us put more energy into a given unit of water (specifically by making steam that can go over 100 degr...

Re: Why uranium?
I'm expecting the tradeoff to be that nuclear is logistically complicated but ultimately quite cheap in terms of materials invested/power compared to solar and much more compact (except over very long timescales when the zero upkeep of solar + accumulators wins out, just like it currently wins out q...

Re: Friday Facts #183 - Aiming for the release date
I look at it this way. I can place any building down instantly within player reach, so why would I need one time use robots to place them down for me within player reach? In other words I don't want to be hand crafting yet another thing (disposable robots) just so I can build blueprints early game....

Re: Friday Facts #183 - Aiming for the release date
All this goes back to player freedom. Let everyone play how they like. It's part of the basic conceit of default Factorio that you start as just a person, with person-like limitations (like simulating having to laboriously chop down trees with simple tools). The stuff you research and invest in, li...

Re: Friday Facts #183 - Aiming for the release date
For the idea about dragging your mouse over entities to build them, that's not bad, but I still think my suggestion of building everything within range is better. One big reason for this is that hovering your mouse over many small things (1x1) like power poles or inserters is extremely annoying, to...

Re: how do YOU manage barrels of oil?
Pump jacks are really slow so the storage tank basically is always empty. I think this setup would result in the train just driving around constantly with very few barrels. Yea, there's basically no reason to send the train back to base unless it's actually got a full load of 400 Filled crude oil b...

Re: how do YOU manage barrels of oil?
Every oil loading station gets at least one crude storage tank, storage tanks are wired to an arithmetic combinator that divides the contents by 25 and allows that many empty barrels to be unloaded by a filter or stack filter inserter from the train into a crate. The train picks up fresh or recycled...
