Yes, you can. And then it becomes fully automated again, as burner inserters take fuel for themselves if they need it... I want to use them in some cases, such as when power is REALLY far away, but right now it's a waste.

OP is right, zooming out should increase the scrolling speed. No computer limitations.

Both arctic and desert should be fairly monotone. 2 ground textures should be enough for starters. Apart from that you have only weather on graphics, rest should be some fairly simple coding.
