Re: Congrats, you broke me
Most funny thing about posts like these is. If you reach big asteroids, you already have a dozen of hours into the game, and compared to pretty much any other game, got your money worth of gameplay.

Re: Lightning Collector vs. Lightning Rod
Lightning rods may be much cheaper, but if you're making anything halfway functional on Fulgora you should be drowning in resources. Lightning strikes don't change in density depending on rods/collectors, each area gets a random range of strikes. By using collectors, you're getting a higher ...

Re: Lightning Collector vs. Lightning Rod
Upgrading to Lightning Collectors is worth it due to their 40% efficiency (vs. 20% for rods) and 1 GJ capacity, minimizing wasted power and doubling energy collection from strikes.
I disagree. While being twice as efficient, and twice as much storage I have the following remarks:
- Efficiency ...

Re: Raspberry 5 headless server
Can I ask if there's a particular reason to use a Raspberry Pi as a server? Used/refurbished computer hardware is so cheap, it's almost free in most parts of the world. Are you just doing it to see if it can be done?
There is no reason. There used to be the reason that it was quite easy to go ...

Re: Would I Enjoy Space Age?
It doesn't feel anymore like a fun game that never ends with a factory just forever growing... Space Age gets to a point when it feels the game is completed/done/finished.
My experience is the exact opposite, with the base game, I always felt the game was done/finished after I got some space ...

Re: Would I Enjoy Space Age?
I had about 1100 hours in Factorio before I got space age. What I enjoy most is figuring out the production chains and setting that up progressing to the next chain. I don't mega-base, I don't optimize the hell out of things. I played a lot of mods because of getting new production chains being ...

And how about importing Bioflux for Nauvis' captured biter nests or biochambers (fish breeding, wood processing, ...): Is that a thing? Are you doing that?
Do you do it with on a regular schedule or manually on demand? Did you setup your biochambers or biter nests very close to the cargo landing ...

Re: The most ridicilous receipes in SA ...
Given that we can extract bacteria from said fruit that have ridiculous amounts of iron and copper in it, I start to wonder if its really "fruit" we are harvesting, and not a bodypart of a rotting eldrich abomination that is planet sized.
That matches with the people that say that Gleba is the ...

Always.
With a bit of imagination though, the extra fertile land from Nauvis provide nutrients that otherwise would not exist in certain Gleba's biome due to the different climate and condition they would chemically react or be absorbed by other species. This is probably ...

Re: How much fruit to harvest for a small Gleba factory?
Kirk's factorio calculator says 1 biolab making science needs 25 yamuko and 10 jellynut per minute (although I don't think it's taking nutrient needs into account). That matches my experience. I have 1 tower for each fruit and it keeps between 1 and 2 biolabs busy. And the towers are disabled most ...

Re: How hard is it to reach the systems outer edge?
Pretty sure railguns are a hard requirement for reaching the edge. Other weapons then semi-optional. I made it to the 60k shattered planet range with just railguns and laserturrets. Yes, laserturrets are quite awful at asteroids, BUT, they only need power, which means you can focus all production on ...

Re: Looking At Achievement Percentages...
Space Age steam power is an 18.3% achievement percentage, and that is probably damn near everyone on Steam that bought the game since you get that super early.
Everything else goes down from there.
Creating a space platform is 6%, so less than a third of the people that got steam running ...

Re: Feels like certain changes were made to the game 'just because'
The game itself needs to be designed to give absolute veterans as smooth an experience as possible.
And that's how many great games died a slow but surely death.

New players are literally the reason Factorio is ...

Re: Aquilo - Ammoniacal Solution bottleneck
It's one of the reasons my Aquilo base runs of solid fuel power instead of fusion power, it generates a ton of ice as byproduct, supplying most of the ice needing parts of the base and recycling the rest. Ice is much easier to get rid off then Ammonia.

Re: Was build targeting AVX ever benchmarked against SSE2 build?
- AVX2 is rare, most systems won't have this yet. It's currently exclusive to server machines. Float16 support that it adds is cool, but won't help factorio as that breaks lockstep.
Umm, it's 10 years old now, and I've had various AVX2 processors for most of that time.
My mistake, I mistook ...
