The world wakes up to Factorio

http://steamspy.com/app/427520 It's almost enough to curb your cycnicism and beleive that a truly great game *will* rise to the top no matter how humble it's beginnings. Especially when you see it persistently outselling the likes of Rise of the Tomb Raider, XCOM2 and Fallout 4 on the best seller li...

Re: Buying on factorio.com vs on Steam

And you will always be able to buy from here? (while receiving a steam key) And I googled a bit, looks like steam takes a minimum 30% cut. AFAIK Steam takes no cut registering a Steam key bought from a 3rd party, including the devs themselves. Buying direct from the web site means the devs avoid th...

Factorio ensconced on Steam best sellers - congrats

No more than you deserve for this amazing game. I also predict Factorio will enjoy consistent steady success. It is the sort of game that every self-respecting strategy gamer will eventually realise they have to play in order to remain a self-respecting strategy gamer. It's so unique that when you a...

Re: Is it better to buy the game on Steam or direct?

Don't forget that the developers are shelling out to give Steam keys to everyone who buys it direct, so Steam surely is getting a cut of that. Still, it is probably better to buy direct. And why not, since it appears in your Steam library as well? To the best of my knowledge Steam makes no charge f...

Re: Eliminating Nests

Lasers first for turret creep attacks to get rid of nearby nests that are bugging you early game. The more you practice this the easier it gets. I used to mess about with walls for this procedure but i don't bother anymore - I just make sure I've got 100 or so lasers in inventory and lay down 20 odd...

The more I play the more I lay out the factory in sections that produce specific products, provide each with room to expand and think about designs that are easy to double up and double up again.

Re: Better “No Path” feedback for trains

@ssilk: if I understand your approach correctly then we could have the following conditions and messages: 1. In the case where there is no available contiguous track to the next station (regardless of signals and station orientations) you can say "No track to next station". We can then sea...

Re: Better “No Path” feedback for trains

LordFedora wrote:But if there is an error, how can it tell what route to take?
I would think that the game must already calculate the whole route to the next destination station in order to identify any fault on the route. It would follow that the train could advance to the position of that fault.

Re: Factory Priority List

I came to the forum looking for some kind of priority list to follow, or at least to keep in mind, when playing factorio. I didn't find any thread on the topic so if someone has some kind of list it would be helpful. what I'm looking for is something like: -mining coal/iron/copper/stone -smeltin ir...

Re: Better “No Path” feedback for trains

It would also be very helpful if when a train was ordered to commence a route, and there was a problem with the route, it advanced as far as it could to the first error then stopped giving a "Track error" or Signal error" message at the position of the problem. This would make debuggi...

Re: Issue with oil supply and railways

No path is one of two things. Missing track, or incorrect rail signals. I kind of got that - the question is which is it and where is it? It would help some if it told you "Signal error" or "Track error" or "Signal and track error(s)" etc. It would help even more if wh...

Re: Issue with oil supply and railways

It all goes into gas really, don't make any solid fuel. I use coal for trains. I do 20 steam engines to start then solar all the way. I tried doing the remote oil again with pipes and it's about 10 times easier and 10 times faster. i did not realise you could pipe oil that distance, i thought it was...

Issue with oil supply and railways

As i get better at the game, I've got a couple of somewhat related problems that are beginning to annoy me as they are causing a lot of delays, distractions and reloads. First is the oil supply. The wells seem to drain so fast there is always a problem with getting more oil. What makes it worse is t...

Re: Upcoming content

So I heard about the game here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ksf5QHlQWg and after playing the demo I figured this is a game I would like to buy. Now I rarely buy in game in Alpha but seems to be coming along really well with frequent updates. The thing is I never play games in Alpha ever and I d...

Re: Little things I love about the game

Agree about these two. Don't care to admit how many times I've shot up my own stuff trying to pause or unpause the game with shift+space. I don't use the car much because constantly repairing it is a pain. Would be nice if it was invulnerable to collisions apart from with worms/biters and worm/bite...

Hi, There are also things I dislike though: -handling of the car through obstacles -accidently shooting your own laser turrets with the shotgun Agree about these two. Re: Need help with rail signals

I think the problem you face is that the crossing points *and* the straight sections 1-3, 2-4 are all considered one block so if any train is stopped at the signals at 3 or 4 nothing can get out of the "platforms". One way you may get what you want is to remove the 2-3 point and loop the t...
