How to reproduce:

*The setup must have 2 displays.
*Start factorio and wait to the main menu is shown.
*When the game is showing the main menu screen, use shift+win+arrow key to move the game to another display.

I can see your point, and it makes total sense and unfortunately it kind of invalidates all my wishes. I just have to remember to not check "trash unrequested" unless it is to clean out the inventory once in a while and not leave it on all the time.

If i have a spidertron with construction bots, where the "trash unrequested" is selected. If i cut'n'paste some buildings, the bots place the stuff in the trash slots. I can not then build the buildings again, as i do not have the things in my inventory - i need to request the items and then go to ...
