Upon clicking on the Steam "Play" button a window for "Synchronising Steam cloud" pops up and promptly disappears. The game stops there (i.e the Steam button turns from "Stop" to "Play" again).

The cloud synchronisation seems to succeed as there are saves in the ~/.factorio folder but that's all ...
