I haven't noticed a difference. I usually play with a big start area so that I don't have to deal with biters, but I was getting regular (every... 20 min?) biter attacks of about 5-10 in a group, until I destroyed their nest.... Personally, I love their removal. Biters are still an issue- their attacks, and land as a resource, but I don't have to farm them to get large amounts, especially for infinite research.
