Re: The numbers on fluids

I tried implementing the fluid-handling advice in this thread last night, in a new game with Railworld settings, and I was just knocked out. I set up my new oil outpost with four tanks right next to the rails, so each fluid car was serviced by two pumps directly connected to a tank, and the filling ...

Is there a problem with loading and unloading trains from both sides at once?

Re: Alt-F4 #38 - FacSTEMrio

Reading such articles always leaves me feeling like a monkey. A not-very-bright monkey, at that.

I love Factorio.

When the alarm goes off at 0700 on a work day and I only got 4 hours sleep, I hate Factorio.

Man oh man, if that's what pocarski calls basic, I'd sure hate to attempt anything he considered advanced.

I was lost by the third paragraph.

Re: Alt-F4 #28 - ROFL

I have built some very long causeways over water for rails, and it doesn't really take that much landfill. I just adjust the size of my "brush" with the plus/minus keys on the keypad, and lay down a strip just wide enough for the rails. Curves and diagonals get sloppy, so I try to do thos...

Re: Isolated power networks and laser sentry turrets

I spent a while looking at this one, and I don't get it.
The wiki page for the Power Switch isn't exactly the most comprehensive https://wiki.factorio.com/Power_switch
But if you have nuclear power, why even bother?

Re: Alt-F4 #28 - ROFL

I previously built something similar but the trains became a snarled up mess, largely due to the fact that I'm playing in a natural world with lots of water, and building a full grid would have required tremendous amounts of landfill to build tracks over water just to make sure the trains could get...

Re: Spidertron water crossing

Thank you very much for that useful information, NotRexButCaesar. It is sincerely appreciated. Another useful thing I learned about the Spidertron just now is that it will shoot by itself when I'm not in it. I was inspecting one of my border posts, and I had parked my Spidertron just inside the wall...

Re: Intriguing red dot

Easiest way to find out is shoot one artillery shell at it, and be zoomed in (with map view) when the shell arrives. This is called "reconnaisance by fire". Whatever it is, if it's red, it's not your friend. Personally, I'm more intrigued by the fact that you have four vehicles parked at y...

How change settings in a mod?

Many mods state that a user can change the settings, but I haven't seen any explanation of HOW. Can someone please explain this to me? Do I need to open the zip file and edit the settings.lua file, changing the default, or is there an interface, or what? I have a good understanding of file manipulat...

Very nice work! I especially like the squares on your concrete. I have been using the pause function to see and measure. Yes, I know, there is an option to toggle a full-time grid, but I don't like it. About the layout of your labs. I see you are chaining them all. Katherine of Sky, in one of her vi...

Re: Is using other people’s blueprints cheating?

It mostly depends on how you enjoy the game. Some considers factorio a puzzle game where you work on individual little problems so they detest blueprinting, which I respect. But I strongly disagree on the opinions that blueprinting " breaks the spirit of the game ". Factorio is a game abo...

Wow, this was a real eye-opener!

I have been using the Efficiency modules only to offset the increased power consumption of other modules. I wasn't aware of the reduction in pollution output.
