I'm experiencing a related bug. Dragging underground belts (even without BPs) suddenly stopped placing the second one. Here to report the same thing. 'Z' key for me, but same scenario. Got the achievement when I click-dragged across, which made me realize that my single-drop didn't trigger the achievement.

Adding my voice to this suggestion, came here looking for it. I propose something a little cleaner and possibly easier to implement though:

Shift-click would issue a series of commands to Spidertron. Hold shift and make several clicks to tell spidey "go here, then here, then here, then here."
