Placing a quality stone brick and picking it up removes the quality

Post by phaneros »

Just found this while messing around. I was curious if quality did anything to stone paths, like improved walking speed or something. I placed a 2-pip quality (uncommon?) brick, picked it up by pressing Q on another stone brick and mining the brick I placed, and got a non-quality (normal) brick back.

Would have to make another one and test some more to see if it has to do with pressing Q on a regular brick path, and I kind of don't want to do more testing as I was hoping to start building up quality walls.

Tested a second time and using q to pipette the brick I placed with quality still gave me back a non-quality brick. My understanding is that background tiles can't have quality (though rails can, I guess they have HP while stone brick doesn't so they're not background)

Thanks for the report however that is not a bug. We do not care about preserving quality of a item used for building a tile as it would cause significant memory penalties.

Ps. Please conform to bug reports rules, missing game version on which you observed the issue is not nice.

Re: [2.0.10] Placing a quality stone brick and picking it up removes the quality

Apologies, will do so in future. This was observed in 2.0.10. I kind of expected it would be intended behaviour, my report is more so that it's not expected behaviour; it may be helpful to have a note in the Factoriopedia or someplace where a player can check this without sacrificing resources.
