Enemy variety depending on environment

Post by Lav »

Just a crazy idea: make biters and spitters stats dependent on their environment:

1. If there's plenty of iron in the nest's vicinity, increase physical resistance.
2. Copper increases laser resistance.
3. Coal increases explosion resistance.
4. Oil increases fire resistance.
5. Uranium... Well, IIRC nuclear bombs currently deal explosion damage, so perhaps just increase evolution factor locally for this specific hive.

Degree of resistance improvement should be dependent on the total amount and vicinity of resource to the nest.

Essentially, no matter what strategy players employ, some nests will naturally be tougher for them than others. Players who rely heavily on laser turrets will learn to fear nests sitting on copper deposits, and might be forced to adapt their local defences, or simply eradicate those nests (with other weapons obviously) and set up forts to prevent re-settlement.

Additionally, this makes resource-rich worlds much more challenging to play.

This would add a good level of variety to the combat. Though, with .15, it already greatly enhanced combat experience (first time every I used a tank so clear stuff since .12).
