I have seen Mike Acton's ECS presentation couple of weeks ago and it is something that intrigues me. When we finish 1.0, I plan to take some time off and try to prototype some of the Factorio's basic mechanics in Unity's new ECS, just to see how it would be done.

But, as I said, there is no chance of any major change in how entites are represented in current Factorio.

Rewriting a game at this stage to an ECS would be close to insanity. The only reason I mentioned anything is because Bilka pointed me to this thread, and I saw some misinformation floating around.

If you ever do get around to something like that, do share the results around, I'm very interested myself in how much performance you can get.
