Are we there yet?
Re: Friday Facts #282 - 0.17 in sight
Does this mean, the (tweaked) 0.16 generator will be still available in 0.17? And can I select it for new maps?posila wrote: Sun Feb 17, 2019 10:40 pmpleegwat wrote: Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:01 am What is going to happen to existing 0.16 maps during the upgrade? Will these keep using the old noise function after upgrade, and generate new chunks which match the old ones, or will there be sudden transitions like we've seen in the past?So TOGoS messaged me the old maps will keep using 0.16 generator (with some tweaks), so there won't be so sudden transitions as in previous map generator updates.

Thank you very much!By overriding any of those, a modder could easily create a map where biters are found only at high elevations, or only near water, or correlate enemy placement with that of resources, or any other thing that can be expressed as a function of location.

Having 0.17.6 up and running on my machine now, I'm trying to figure out the right collection of options to reproduce the "3 Islands / PvP Islands" picture.
Is that doable with the vanilla interface, or is some modding required?

You don't need mods, but you might need to --create a save from the command-line with a custom map gen settings JSON file. The data/map-gen-settings.example.json included with 0.17.6 has a section for starting points. Add more starting points and create a map based on that.badams wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 9:01 pm Having 0.17.6 up and running on my machine now, I'm trying to figure out the right collection of options to reproduce the "3 Islands / PvP Islands" picture.
