Idea: C-belt lane blocker

Ideas that are too old (too many things have changed since) and ones which won't be implemented for certain reasons or if there are obviously better suggestions.

Idea: C-belt lane blocker

(C-belt = conveyor belt)

The lane blocker would block items on the chosen side of the lane, allowing items on the other lane to pass through. Which lane is blocked would be switchable.

To explain it better, here is my current setup. I am using a filter inserter to allow only coal to continue, still, a small bottleneck is created.
Another side-effect is the the coal now occupies the center of the new c-belt.

With the blocker I could just block the left side (iron), allowing coal to continue (and keep being on the same lane too).

Just putting it out there, but I'd understand if you want to keep things more LEGO-like and simple. (That goes for the "side inserter" idea in that other thread too)

I agree, it would save a lot of space.
If you want to do it now, you need to build something like this, which is not always possible because there isn't enough space:

Guys, I took a look at screenshots you posted and one thing poped up in my mind "What a hell is that?",
I mean really, I cant even understand what this thing for.

Next thing on my mind was "ohh, i see now...",

The fundamental idea of the game is to force you to spend hours on tasks like that,
and finally after awesome brainstorm, multiply attemps, fails and mistakes,
you came with solution so ingenious, so smart, that you feel your self proud of your creation.

IMHO: This is one of the biggest game purposes.

I completely understand that! As I said on the last sentence of my first post.

We are just putting ideas out there, but of course they must be compatible with your vision and shouldn't ruin the magic of the game by making everything too easy.

In my factories, I always try to put just one type of item per belt. Why would you need more?

The world is infinite, so why do you build so tight?

The devs said about a year after that, that they won't impelement new belt-types. I think (I guess of course!) it is because of this: They implemented to mod the belts more or less easily and found out, that it is not that good for the game.

You can use side-loading into an underground belt for this task and it will work. Because intake of an underground belt is half below ground, it takes only one lane of side-loaded conveyor. Another lane of that conveyor will be stuck.
